Established 30 years ago, these guys pioneered winemaking in the Upper Yarra Valley and have achieved unreal success since grape genius David Bicknell took the reins in 2002. We’re talking about scores of trophies, numerous medals and a winery of the year award. There’s a reason why they’re rated as an outstanding winery by James Halliday year after year.
A traditional winemaking approach is used to produce this wine – handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly to 500 litre French oak puncheons for a natural fermentation followed by 10 months maturation on lees.
Pale straw with green hues. There is an intensity to the aroma, nectarine, grilled citrus fruits and complexed with gun flint, fresh doe and toast. All fighting for attention in the glass yet none completely dominating the other. The textural palate has weight and depth with a pure preserved lemon like acidity forming its shape and adding crunch. Generosity and complexity continue throughout till culminating in a grilled grapefruit like finish. Bright and pure yet intriguing.
