This 100% Chenin Blanc comes from the 'Tintookie' single vineyard - home to some of the oldest Chenin vines in Australia - in the cool Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. Cool, sandy slopes allow the grapes to ripen slowly, preserving the natural acidity of Chenin, and making a wine that has tremendous ageing potential. Hand-picked grapes are barrel fermented in old French oak, and left on the lees for six months for a richly textured wine.
Dowie Doole was established in 1995 by two grape growers and friends, who had up until then sold their fruit to larger companies. Drew Dowie and Norm Doole cultivated biodynamic viticulture early on, to ensure the sustainability of the living landscapes for future generations. They brought on winemaker Chris Thomas in 1996, and the estate's pedigree grew and grew. Unusually for this region, the wines are 100% estate grown and managed, as a sign of their commitment to quality at every step of the process
