Frappato, Valle Dell'Acate 2016, Sicily, Italy

The Sicilian winery Valle dell’Acate has a long history as one of the top estates in Sicily. The Jacono family have been making the wines in the Dirillo Valley, southeast Sicity, since the 1800s. A mid-sized estate, of around 100 hectares - but not all vineyards, as the family also grow the delicious Sicilian blood oranges.

The Acate Frappato is organically grown, on a mix of chalk, sandstone and clay. The grapes are entirely hand harvested, and sorted and destemmed before vinification. Frappato is a very lively and aromatic red grape variety, so the wine is raised in stainless steel only, no oak, to keep the freshness and bright aromatics.
