Domaine du Joncier is in the picturesque village of Tavel, in the Southern Rhone. Established in 1964 by Pierre Roussel, the 32-hectare domaine has been in the hands of his daughter Marine - a graphic artist by training - since 1989. The vast majority of the domaine’s production is red wines, with a tiny amount of whites also produced. Biodynamic and organic, Marine works with extremely low yields from terraced vines to ensure intensity and complexity from her vines.
The ‘Les Muses’ is majority Mourvedre, with a small amount of Syrah. The yields are extremely low, 12hl/ha (anything below around 25hl/ha is considered low). The grapes are destemmed, no commercial yeasts are used (all wild yeasts), and the wines raised in underground concrete vats for 36 months. They are unfined and unfiltered to preserve the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir.
