Melania Battiston is one of the UK sommelier industry’s rising stars. She hails from Piedmont, northwest Italy, and originally came to the UK to study business and marketing at the University of Bath. Keen to sharpen her English skills before studying, Melania took a job at the iconic London wine bar 28-50, where superstar Master Sommelier Clement Robert took her under his wing. Melania found inspiration and passion in the world of wine, and has not looked back. She’s been at Medlar in Chelsea now for three years, first as Assistant Head Sommelier and now as Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer.
Last year was a good year for Melania - she won the drinks magazine Imbibe’s ‘Personality of the Year’ award, and also scooped the Gerard Basset Tasting Trophy, named after one of the wine industry’s legends.
