The Elvio Cogno winery is a small, 15 hectare estate in Novello, one of eleven townships in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, where Barolo DOCG production is allowed. Fourth generation family winemakers and vine growers work with care and attention to detail, in a classic and low intervention mindset.
Nebbiolo is the king of grapes of the Piedmont, famed for Barolo and Barbaresco production, as well as being a notoriously fussy and difficult to grow grape variety. High acidity and tannins are a classic characteristic of the grape, which often requires long ageing to soften. The Elvio Cogno Montegrilli is a rare expression of Nebbiolo which sees no oak use in its production - allowing the pure nuance of Nebbiolo to shine through, and creating a wine with drinkability and freshness.
