When August Kesseler took over his parents’ winery, which was founded in 1924, he was only 19 years old. Today, under August’s guidance, the estate has become one of the flagship producers of the Rheingau area. The estate spans 80 acres of vineyards located in some of the best Rheingau sites. They produce 60% Riesling and 40% Pinot Noir and are a member of the VDP and the German Barrique-Forum.
The grapes for this wine come from the hills around Rüedesheim – one of the warmest places in the Rheingau area, which benefits from south-facing vineyards on slate, quartzite, loess and loam soils. The grapes are hand-picked and go through another selection process afterwards. Each parcel is vinified separately. The 2015 vintage, which was a fantastic vintage for Riesling in Germany, was vinified and aged in stainless steel.
