Stonecroft is a family-owned winery in the heart of the important Gimblett Gravels wine region in Hawke’s Bay, on New Zealand’s North Island. The estate is very small, producing only 3,000 cases per year, and is owned and run by Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin. They are passionate about organic viticulture, and work carefully to harness the incredible power of their unique gravel-rich terroir.
The Stonecroft Syrah vines are some of New Zealand’s oldest - planted in 1984. In a relatively new wine-making country, this is a hugely valuable and special resource. The Undressed Syrah is a barrel selection wine, from a small parcel of the Mere Road vineyard. The wine ages for 5 months in 20% new French oak barrels. There is no addition of sulphur at any stage of the process, hence the “undressed” moniker.
