The i Clivi winery, ‘clivi’ meaning ‘slopes’, is a small, boutique, 12 hectare estate in Fruili Venezia Guilia - a region perhaps best known for its output of higher quality Pinot Grigios. i Clivi favour working with more unique and interesting local varieties such as Ribolla, Friulano, and Verduzzo. The vineyards are blessed with old vines - some of which are between 60-90 years old - and are certified organic, and farmed biodynamically.
The i Clivi Verduzzo is grown on very low-yielding 70 year old vines from a vineyard near the Slovenian border. The whole bunches are very gently and softly pressed to extract the juice, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, with no commercial yeasts added. 6 months ageing on the fine lees gives texture to the wine. The wines are very lightly filtered before bottling.
